Presentation_description:

This session focuses on data evidenced methodology utilized by an Academic Success Coordinator.  This systematic protocol identifies individual learning styles using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and a modality learning assessment to customize study strategies to meet individual student needs. Student needs are addressed holistically, which incorporates the spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of each student.   This interactive workshop gives the participants first hand experience using this approach and will also provide several ready to use handouts.

 

Purpose of presentation

To share academic consultation protocol that has proven successful at our institution

 

Learning objectives

The participants will be able to determine:

1.      Student learning styles using a modality inventory (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic)

2.      Learning strategies specific to learning style modality.

3.      Learning strategies based on personality type.

        

Significance to the field

This session will:

1. help academic consultant professionals be successful when assessing specific learner needs.

2. help students find effective and efficient learning strategies.

Presenter Information: Sue Selde has taught on the post secondary level for 20 years.  Her experience includes teaching Regular Education, Special Education, and Exercise Science courses.  She has coordinated and taught the Strategies for Academic Success course at Creighton University and is currently the Academic Success Coordinator for CreightonÕs School of Nursing.

Denise LeClair has taught on the post secondary level for over 20 years.  Her teaching experience includes teaching the Strategies for Academic Success course at Creighton University and at Metropolitan Community College.  She is currently the Assistant Director for the Office of Disabilities Accommodations at Creighton University.

 

PresenterBio:
