Welcome to the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) web site.

This web site offers you a wealth of information about CRLA membership, organizational structure, programs, and resources for learning assistance professionals.

CRLA is a voluntary association of over 1200 postsecondary learning assistance colleagues. We are tutor trainers; faculty in various fields, such as reading, math, writing, education, and learning skills; learning center administrators; TRIO program personnel; developmental educators; and other academic support professionals who work primarily in Canada and the United States.

  • We offer International Tutor Program Certification (ITPC) and International Mentor Program Certification (IMPC), which have provided important resources, leadership, and support for tutor trainers and mentor trainers for many years. Click on Certification for information.

  • Contact Tina Barnes, ITPC Coordinator, at crlacertification@rmwc.edu for further ITPC information.

  • Contact Doirin Eddy, IMPC Coordinator, at impc_coordinator@yahoo.com for further IMCP information.

·       If you are interested in submitting a manuscript to our Journal of College Reading and Learning (JCRL), go to Publications and click on Journal. The JCRL is a primary benefit of joining CRLA. As a member, you will receive two issues a year of this stellar publication, a double-blind-reviewed journal devoted to research and practice of postsecondary learning assistance, developmental education, and academic support.

·       Another benefit to members is our CRLA NewsNotes, a newsletter issued electronically four times a year to keep members informed about CRLA activities.  To submit an article or query, contact Anne-Marie Schlender at aschlend@austincc.edu .

  • Our State, Chapter, and Regional organizations are active with newsletters and meetings throughout the year. A click on States, Regions, and Chapters will help you find CRLA activities in your area.

  • You can also find people dedicated to shared concerns in our Special Interest Groups (SIGs).  These groups share information and meet at the annual conference for an exchange of ideas and to discuss current issues. Click on People for any of those contacts.

  • CRLA is renowned for the annual conference, and the 2007 conference, CRLA 2007: Focus on Learning, will be exceptional.  Click on Conferences to learn more about our 40th annual conference, in Portland, Oregon, October 31-November 3, 2007.  I join the CRLA Board members and On-site Chair to invite you to our 40th Annual CRLA Conference.  The conference will focus on three dimensions of learning: Student Learning, Staff Learning, and Organizational Learning.  Rick Sheets, CRLA President-elect and 2007 Conference Chair can answer questions you may have about the conference.  His e-mail address is rick.sheets@pvmail.maricopa.edu.

If you are not a member now, I extend my personal invitation to join us. Click on Membership and How to join.  Welcome to the CRLA family.  If I can answer questions about CRLA for you, please write to me. This organization exists to help all of us to help students achieve their academic goals.  I hope to meet you soon.

Sincerely,

Sharon M. Taylor
