CRLA Awards and Scholarships for 2008

Professional Development Scholarships (For more information email Leta.Tyhurst@mcckc.edu)

Institute Scholarships.

Eligible work is defined as “participation in an intensive workshop such as the Technology Institute for Developmental Educators, Winter Institute, NCLCA Summer Institute, and Kellogg Institute.” A maximum of three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in this category.

Graduate Study & Research Scholarships.
Eligible work is defined as “pursuing graduate study in an approved program or conducting research in a field of interest to the members of CRLA.” A maximum of two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in this category annually.

Outstanding Journal of College Reading & Learning Article
This award will recognize the outstanding JCRL article published in the previous fall and spring issues. One award will be presented annually. The author(s) will receive a plaque.

Distinguished Teaching Award
This award will recognize a member of the Association who exemplifies teaching and learning as a lifelong journey. Recipients of this high honor will be professionals who provide their students with a clear model of enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and compassionate teaching and who encourage their students to persevere and achieve interdependence. One award will be presented annually. The recipient will receive a $100 honorarium and a plaque.

Houghton Mifflin Travel Award for Teachers of Reading at a Community College
Funded by Houghton Mifflin, this award will go to CRLA members teaching reading at a community college who seek professional development through participation in the annual CRLA conference. A maximum of two $500 Houghton Mifflin Travel Awards will be awarded annually.

McGraw-Hill Professional Development Award for Teachers of Reading
The College Reading and Learning Association will annually award one $500 grand prize and three CRLA conference registration scholarships as the McGraw-Hill Professional Development Awards for Teachers of Reading. These awards, funded by McGraw-Hill, will go to CRLA members who seek professional development through participation in the annual CRLA conference. Grand prize funds may be used for conference registration, travel, lodging, meals and other travel-related expenses. Note: Only one McGraw-Hill Professional Development Award for Teachers of Reading  will be awarded to one individual.
