Colleges Tour: Jefferson Community & Technical College and University of Louisville

Visit Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) and the University of Louisville (UofL) to tour their award-winning learning assistance programs. Both institutions have centralized tutoring and/or mentoring programs that provide services to students in one location on campus. At JCTC, the Learning Commons was opened in fall 2015 to create a “one stop” service model. Data collected in the first year of operations shows a high level of student satisfaction.

UofL has tutoring and mentoring programs that are part of REACH, Resources for Academic Achievement. Located on the Belknap campus, this unit is the university’s centralized academic support unit. Stops on our tour will include REACH’s Welcome Center, Learning Resource Center, Math Resource Center, and the Computer Resource Centers.

Against the Grain Brewery Tour

  • 7:00 pm - Private tour and beer tasting followed by group seating for dinner

Against The Grain Brewery & Smokehouse is located in the southeast corner of Louisville Slugger Field, a nationally awarding minor league ballpark, at the corner of Jackson and Main Street. It is a former train station that features beautifully ornate industrial architecture, lending to the beauty of the dining room and brew house. Inside you will find one of the nation’s only operational, Victorian styled and 3 story 'showpiece' brew houses. The copper clad 15-barrel brew house is complimented by eclectic pieces of art produced by artists from Louisville. Tour the brewery with a master brewer, sample unique local craft beers, learn about Louisville’s significant and growing craft beer scene and ask about other local breweries to explore while you’re in town. Follow your tour with a casual, relaxing dinner.

Old Louisville via Trolley De Ville

Board the popular and iconic Trolley De Ville for a moonlit tour of Old Louisville, one of the largest and most spectacular historic preservation districts in the country. Spread out over some 40 square blocks, this neighborhood is full of history, beautiful architecture and includes the city’s Frederick Olmsted designed Central Park. In addition to delightful Victorian homes and elegant mansions, participants will discover old world charm, hidden back alleys, and cozy walking courts lined with gas lamps. Evan Williams Bourbon Distillery Experience

Located on Louisville’s historic “Whiskey Row,” this experience features an artisanal distillery guided tour and educational bourbon tasting. We will learn the process for making bourbon, see it being made, and participate in distinguishing different bourbons by taste and smell. Celebrating the legacy of Evan Williams, KY’s first commercial distiller, this immersive experience brings KY history and tradition to life. Our group will then walk to the Mussel and Burger Bar. This new downtown restaurant is a unique concept owned by Louisville restaurant guru, Fernando Martinez, whose other creations include Havana Rumba Cuban Restaurant, Mojito Tapas, Guacamole and several others—all “one of a kind” and inspired by his childhood in Habana, Cuba.

Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind Tour

  • 6:00 pm - Private tour with time to explore the Museum
  • 7:00 pm - Dinner on your own on Frankfort Avenue
  • 9:00 pm - Bus departs for the Marriott
  • 9:30 pm - Bus returns to Marriott

APH is the world’s largest company devoted solely to researching, developing, and manufacturing products for people who are blind or visually impaired. It has manufacturing space, a museum, 2 libraries, and 11 recording studios. You will see a video of the factory in action, go on a tour of the production area, and visit the museum where you’ll see demonstrations and learn how and why products are designed to fit different visions levels. Hundreds of items are on view in the museum.

After the tour, we’ll travel up Frankfort Avenue, a stretch of road that connects some of Louisville’s most charming neighborhoods and is a culinary hub that includes Café Classico, The Grape Leaf, Basa, Bourbon Bistro, The Hub, Irish Rover, and more.

Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum Tour

  • 5:00 pm - Return to Marriott

We will tour Churchill Downs and enjoy the Kentucky Derby Museum. Our first stop is the Museum where you can explore the two floors of exhibits about and from the history of horse racing and the KY Derby. You will enjoy our scheduled viewing of the “Greatest Race” in a 360 degree theater and take a private guided tour of Churchill Downs.
Next we walk over to the entrance of the race track where there are scheduled day horse racing. Our admission ticket includes access to the first two levels of the track, reserved box seats and a souvenir program. You can enjoy watching the horses saddle up in the paddock, placing bets (or not) at the betting windows, and viewing races from your seat or other viewing areas.
